Classical Quality in Marlborough

By Shirley Ludford On Tuesday 6th February 2018

I would be most grateful if you could publicise our next recital in the series "Brilliant Young International Musicians in St Peter's Church" will be given at 7.30pm on Sunday 18 February by Jessica Zhu who played wonderfully in our 2014/15 series and we are particularly keen to hear her play again.  Thank you, Nick Maurice.

Jessica Zhu is an outstanding pianist who was born in China but spent most of her life in USA. She made her orchestral debut in 2006 at the University of Houston when she played Prokofiev's third Piano Concerto with the Houston Symphony Orchestra. She has won many first class prizes and in 2009 was awarded the highly coveted Marshall Scholarship enabling her to take up a Masters programme at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama where she studied with Ronan O'Hara and attended Master classes with Andras Schiff.

Believing in the importance of music to reach audiences without easy access to the arts, Jessica is on the LiveMusicNow young artist scheme performing in hospitals, homes for the elderly, hospices and special education schools throughout the UK.

She has given recitals in highly prestigious venues such as the Wigmore Hall, the Purcell Room, St Martin in The Fields and, of course, St Peter's Church, Marlborough!

Her programme will include  Ravel Sonatine;  Brahms Variations and Fugue on a Theme by Handel Op. 24;     Maurice Ohana Preludes;   Rachmaninoff Sonata No. 2 Op. 36

Tickets at £10 (£8 for members of St Peter's Trust or MBG) are available at Sound Knowledge or White Horse Bookshop.
