SWINDON 105.5 signed up to "Swindon200"

Swindon200 – Your chance to get involved in developing Swindon’s community as a model of fairness, inclusion, opportunity and fulfilment.

Local people are being called on to take part in a new monthly radio show called ‘The Swindon200 Show’ on SWINDON 105.5 which will explore issues around equality and inclusion, but also promote the great things that are happening in the Swindon community.

The show is part of a wider project called "Swindon200", launched thsi year at the Swindon Community Conference held at the National Trust Heelis offices.  Nearly 100 people from over 60 community and voluntary organisations came together to hear from wide range of speakers representing local groups, exploring a range of issues relating to equality and inclusion.  A new ‘Swindon Equality & Inclusion Charter’ was also developed and launched by attendees on the day.

Each show will focus on a different topic, increase awareness and understanding and celebrate  the good work going on in the town and happening in the Swindon community".

Swindon200 is partnership project between Voluntary Actions Swindon and Swindon Equality Coalition and is commissioned by Swindon Borough Council.

Hannah Parry, Development Officer for Voluntary Action Swindon says “We named the project Swindon200 as at the time of developing it Swindon was celebrating its 175th Anniversary of when the GWR came to town.  In the context of celebrating our past and where we are today, we wanted this project to be about looking forwards and encouraging the Swindon community to play an active and positive role in its future.

As the Charter outlines, the project is about supporting Swindon to be a model of fairness, inclusion, opportunity and fulfilment - with the belief that equality forms the foundation of a well-functioning community - but also just a great place for people to live, work and enjoy.”

For those who are keen to get involved in the Swindon200 project, they can sign up to be an Equality Ambassador – a new role shaped by those involved to help take the aims of the project forward.

Local residents, businesses and community organisations are also encouraged to support the project by signing up to the Charter at www.swindon200.uk
