A letter from the family of Lord Joel Joffe, following his sad death at the age of 85.  A great exponenet of freedom of speech - and of Businesses engaging with the communities they serve.

Dear Friends,

We are very sorry to tell you that Joel died peacefully yesterday evening (18th June) after a short illness.  He was at home in Liddington, a place that he loved so much.  He was very well cared for and comfortable in his last days and died a tranquil death with Vanetta and his daughters beside him.

We welcome your support in the coming weeks but please understand that we may not answer the telephone.  If you would like to leave a message, we will pick it up.

Please do not send flowers – we have a glorious garden full of them.

Joel’s wish was to have a private funeral with immediate family only.  Knowing that many people will want to pay their respects, we hope to have an event in his memory, perhaps later this year, which we will let you know about.

One of Joel’s last wishes was to thank his friends and relatives for the wonderful messages he had received.

With warm best wishes

Liz Smith (PA to Joel)
