Swindon 105.5 hosted The Big Book Swap at Lawn Community Centre on Saturday 21st May 12.30pm until 5pm, part of this event included live music, story telling and of course book swapping, plus lots of cake and tea too! It is a free family event!  To celebrate this we have invited a couple of the artists taking part onto the Art to Art programme, Cristina Newton of Blue Gates Poets and Daryll Ball of Swindon band The Batleurs.  You can find out more about them on the links below:

An extraordinary, creative young woman called Bexx who suffered a brain injury when she was younger and has been through years of rehabilitation,  talking about her new song called Smile, joined by one of the team who helped Bexx through her rehabilitation, Jennifer Berry.  (launched at Bath Road Museum and Art Gallery)

Sierra Hurtt with Skeet Williams

Returning to Swindon Sierra performed last night at the Victoria, and tomorrow will be performing live on our Art to Art programme.  Sierra hails from Philadelphia but she brings with her a wonderful cocktail of international flavours to her music.  This is a programme you must find time to listen to, Sierra and Skeet together dance musically amongst the light and shade of emotions, sprinkles shimmer amongst the art they craft together with songs written from the heart.

Folk Rock conversations with band members, Jason Hull, Joe Rendall, Tim Downes-Hall and Mike Rendall, they have recently made it through to the next round of Live and Unsigned competition, they will be joining us on the programme to tell us about their experiences. Renowned Swindon artist Stevie Gilmore well known for his Wiltshire chalkands paintings is also a very talented artist and will be sharing some of his other amazing talents with us Friday as he teams up with members of the BlueGate Poets group.  Hilda Sheehan, Mike Scott, Cristina Newton, Emily Harrison and Katherin T Owen.

`Travellers Without Baggage` is an anthology of work by former Swindon resident
the late Valerie Clarke, the poets will be reading their own `responses` to this work with live musical compositions by Stevie Gilmore, guitarist. Plus news on the BlueGates Poets taking part at the Swindon Festival of Literature in May.

The hour will be dedicated to poetry and song, a harmonious recipe of words and notes to cheer up your Friday hour 1-2pm!

Cristina Newton

 Cristina is a poet, cante hondo singer (flamenco) she will be performing live on the programme some examples of this beautiful form of art. Cristina teaches creative writing, poetry and art appreciation. Alex Secker and Joseph Tedder of Spotlight Pro-Media  a multi-media production company made up of students from the Creative Media Diploma at New College, Swindon. They specialise in many different forms of media, ranging from art and design to film and music  Alex and Jo will be sharing news with us about Spotlight Pro-Media which are a multi-media production company and up and coming projects MY WORLD: RECYCLED EXHIBIT, THE SILENT ASSASSIN (short film) and WISHFUL THINKING (short film).

Picture Perfect Photography Project

Volunteer Centre Swindon's vinvolvedswindon project has put together their first ever photography project.  The aim of the project is to capture volunteering in action, the images will then be made available to the organisation free of charge and will be exhibitioned in 11th March 2011 to the general public at the Volunteers Centre, Swindon. Mandy Ramsdale will be joining the programme to talk about the project and her role as Youth Volunteering Development Manager.

They are opening its doors to young adults aged 18-21, by offering them the chance to join the chorus of The Beggar’s Opera as part of their 2011 theatre project, Luke and Matt shared lots of advice and information about the YAP Theatre group.

Wroughton writer and poet  Katherine T Owen.  Katherine has faced and lived through some difficult personal challenges. Neil Buchanan with his band Marseille headed to Riffs Bar in Greatfield, I was lucky enough to interivew Neil for Swindon 105.5 before the gig kicked off, what a fascinating story and lovely man too, it was brilliant to see the other artistic side to Neil.
